If you have administrative, organizing, or computer skills, we have multiple ways for you to serve at our campuses or our central office. 

Celebrate Recovery (CR) is a 12-step Christ-centered recovery program that combines the practical steps of AA with the teachings of Jesus Christ to redeem and heal. CR offers a person the opportunity to participate in a group where love and hope combine with God’s purpose to mend our lives. It addresses all types of hurts, habits, and hang-ups (examples = depression, fear of rejection or abandonment, pornography, dependency on alcohol or drugs, control issues, or abuse mentally, physically or emotionally. Along with worship music and a recovery lesson/testimony, there are many opportunities to serve within Celebrate Recovery. For those with a smile and open friendliness, we’re looking for Greeters and Parkers.There’s food/snacks to prepare weekly (shopping, preparing and serving). Come early to help set-up and stay late to tear-down. Seeking recovery and serving each other allows us to draw closer to Jesus, our ultimate Healer.

Door Ushers greet people at the outside doors of the worship area, share an encouraging word and gentle smile while also offering a Welcome Packet to enhance the visit to our church.

Encouragement Ministry Team recognizes that our physical body is not hte only part of us that can be affected during times of need or crisis. Our psychological and spiritual well being can also be influenced.  While the team members are not licensed or professional counselors, the Encouragement Team seeks to help those dealing with a concern or any crisis to receive quick and appropriate care.  The team members show Christ’s love and compassion while reaching out in love.

Volunteers assist the staff of Highlands with events. Areas may include: landscaping, general electric, plumbing, HVAC, lighting, and building repair.

This team provides food and other items to the church family and members of the community. The team gathers on Monday to prepare the Pantry in anticipation of meeting the needs of those in our community who will come on Wednesday. The Food Pantry may also respond to an emergency need throughout the week.

We are looking for talented Front of House Audio Engineers to help mix our Live Sunday Gatherings. Are you interested in mixing live sound for our gatherings? Front of House is an important role for our Sunday gatherings, and we are always looking for more FOH support. There are opportunities for those who want to learn more about live sound, as well as those who have experience with live sound.

Greeters help create a warm and welcoming environment by greeting everyone with a smile, opening doors and providing directions - with every smile, prayer and gesture helping each person feel valued. Serving as a Greeter is essential for helping folks feel comfortable in our church, create connection and show hospitality.

HFKidz is a place where kids (six weeks through 5th grade) can learn about Jesus in a safe, welcoming, and engaging environment. Our volunteers help create a space where children feel loved and are excited to come to church. Whether you enjoy greeting families, leading small groups, helping behind the scenes, or caring for little ones, there are many ways to be part of helping kids connect with Christ. And, there’s no experience necessary - just a heart to serve and a willingness to be part of the team.

Our desire in HFStudents is to reach students with the Good News of Jesus and help them grow into passionate Jesus-followers with a love for God and others. We constantly strive to meet students where they are and are always looking for ways to connect with them, helping them to discover who He created them to be. Come join the HFS team and build meaningful relationships with students and other adult leaders.

This team provides donuts, coffee, and other refreshments to our guests. If you love serving people with a smile, consider joining this volunteer team.

Host Team members: strive to make guests feel welcome and at home, similar to how you would host a gathering in your own home! It’s as easy as saying good morning, starting a conversation, holding the door open, sharing a cup of coffee, helping someone who has their hands full, guiding someone who looks lost or new to our church family. Whether you love building relationships, praying for others, or making people feel at ease, you can make an impact!

Minister On Call (MOC) Ministry, consisting of mature members of Highlands Fellowship, reaches out to people in our congregation who are in need of prayer due to medical diagnosis, family turmoil, loss of loved one or other immediate need that requires a reminder that, through all of life’s ups and downs, Jesus cares for us. MOC Members typically serve after-hours and weekends when church staff may not be available.

You can serve with our Online Campus from anywhere in the world! We have volunteers from different parts of the United States each week.  If you are interested in reaching the world with the love of Jesus through the power of the internet, then our Online Campus is a great place for you to serve.

We are also in need of people to volunteer as Prayer Partners during services to chat with users in a one-on-one private chat. You can serve as a Chat Host without doing live prayer, but it is an option if you are able to message with people who may have questions, hurts, or maybe just need someone to pray with them.

Parking Team is the first face our guests and church family see when they come to the church, Parking Team Members help families find a place to park, provide directions and offer assistance when needed.

We are looking for interested volunteers to help with the Tech Team for our Live Sunday Gatherings. Here is a list of how you can serve as a Production/Tech Volunteer:

Seating Ushers help guests find seating when entering the worship area, especially when it appears “there’s nowhere for me to sit”. Oftentimes, it is dark when someone arrives and the use of a small flashlight to illuminate the walkway and an escort makes a difference in the overall impression of our space.

At Highlands we meet people where they are—including social media. You can encourage and engage with people via social media channels. Serve behind the scenes to help people connect with God through weekly worship services, social media, and photography.

Highlands Thrift is a ministry of the church with a mission to provide quality goods at affordable prices to our community. Volunteers are an essential part of Highlands Thrift and we have a variety of ways you can help in our stores.  

Opportunities are available at our location in Abingdon and in Bristol during store hours, Tuesday through Friday from 10 am to 6 pm and Saturday 10 am to 5 pm.  We ask that you contact us in advance so we can make the best use of your skills and the time you're giving us.

Whether you're an individual who wants to give back to your community, high school or college students looking to fulfill a community service requirement, or a small group seeking a worthwhile way to serve your community, we have a place for you to volunteer. Your time makes a difference!

Welcome Center volunteers provide information on all things Highlands - from sharing info with first time guests, registering folks for events and projects, to offering guidance for important spaces, to talking about the many ministries of our church.
